Exploring Essential Materials for a High-Quality Padel Court
Padel courts, vibrant and exciting spaces, require a meticulous combination of materials to provide the best gaming experience. In this post, we will introduce you to the essential materials that make up a high-quality padel court.
At Padelmagic, we pay close attention to the materials we use to construct our padel courts. That’s why we have projects for padel courts in over 15 countries, offering a range of four types of courts. Now, let’s delve into the core matter—the materials needed to build a padel court.
What are the materials needed to build a padel court?
We can categorize them into: Playing surface, enclosures, lighting, turf, spotlights, and extra accessories.
Playing Surface: The choice of material for the playing surface is crucial for performance and durability. Padel courts can be installed on porous or semi-polished concrete, with artificial turf laid on top. Artificial turf provides a consistent bounce to the ball, and it’s essential to differentiate among the three main types: fibrillated, monofilament, and the latest generation (textured or curled turf). In professional settings, players prefer playing on textured turf for precise bounces in high-competition matches. This model allows sand to filter inside, giving the appearance of no sand, although, in reality, all padel turf in the market is ballasted with sand, ranging from 2,000kg in the curled model to 3,500kg with monofilament turf.
Enclosures: Enclosures for a padel court are fundamental to keeping the ball in play. Electro-welded mesh is commonly used on the high sides of the court due to its durability and resistance to weather conditions. Additionally, all courts feature 18 tempered glass panels that provide a clear view of the game and, in case of breakage, pose no harm to players.
Lighting: Proper lighting is essential to enable exciting matches even during nighttime hours. High-quality LED lights ensure a clear view of the court, enhancing the gaming experience and player safety. Padelmagic installs between 4 and 8 200W LED spotlights, and for professional courts, we offer horizontal and asymmetrical luminaires, the latest in padel court lighting.
Game Net: A professional game net must be made of durable PVC with reinforcement to prevent a reduction in its lifespan.
Silica Sand: Another fundamental element for ensuring good gameplay is silica sand. It is necessary to prime the court and prevent it from moving. Despite the misconception that the turf is glued to the ground, it’s actually floating, and the only thing preventing it from moving is the sand ballast. Knowing the granulometry of silica sand is also important. We recommend silica sand between 0.2-0.6 for perfect maintenance and turf durability.
Extra Accessories: All padel courts come with necessary accessories for installation, including the screw kit. Padelmagic takes special care in selecting the quality of the screws; in fact, we are the only manufacturers offering a D4 quality stainless steel screw kit for saline environments. The neoprene used to protect the glass and elements for net tensioning (pulley and ratchet) are also crucial. All these small elements make a difference when manufacturing a high-quality court.
Conclusion: In summary, the careful choice of materials is essential to create a high-quality padel court, from the playing surface to the lighting and structure. Each element contributes to an exceptional gaming experience. By investing in durable and quality materials, you ensure not only player satisfaction but also the longevity of the padel court and its proper maintenance.
